Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology sessions are more than just jumping into an exercise session in the gym, in fact, it is often not about that at all.

At Bloom Allied Health, we believe that Exercise Physiology care is about treating the person, not the disease, injury or disability. Of course, understanding the medical and health history of an individual is essential, but we are more interested in how we can help you, get to understand your goals, your barriers to engaging in health activities and why you made the move to attend our clinic.

Here at Bloom, we adopt a biopsychosocial approach to helping you with your health. We are interested in all aspects of your health, the biology, the psychology and the social components. By doing this, we believe we can holistically support you and guide you towards your health goals.

We understand that no two individuals are the same, even with the same diagnosis and health status. Every individual that comes into our clinic has varying levels of health literacy and are all moving along different stages of their health journeys.

So, what exactly can you expect when you attend our clinic?

Firstly, we will arrange a 60 minute initial appointment time that suits you. With extended initial appointment times, we can really start to understand you and your health concerns.

From there, together we figure out what the best course of action is moving forward. This may be exercise intervention in the gym in a one:one capacity, in a group class, or at home independently. It could be finding a stress management routine that works for you, or getting to the bottom of your sleep issues. Our recommendations are always in the best interest of you and your situation.

We may conduct some baseline health assessments if deemed necessary, this could be an aerobic test, balance or strength. It will all depend on your goals.

Once we have created a plan that suits you, we will continue to support and provide accountability in any way that matches your needs. Perhaps it’s a weekly check-in, a call or a progression of your program.

Our services range from:

Private sessions – no referral is needed to book in with one of our Exercise Physiologists. You can simply call, email or book online. All ages and abilities are welcome to book a private session, or enquire further.

Medicare – a referral from your Doctor is required to book a Medicare bulk billed session. We accept all Care Plans and bulk bill these sessions, meaning no out of pocket expenses for you.

Group Classes – we offer weekly group sessions are tailored to a wide range of fitness and health levels, designed to help you with your fitness, balance, strength and mobility. We also offer Medicare Diabetes Group Classes, entirely bulk billed.

Open Gym – once you have developed some competency and confidence in a gym environment, we recommend that you engage in Open Gym sessions independently. We provide you with a program and you complete it independently under our supervision. This is a nice way to increase your weekly sessions in a cost effective manner.

NDIS sessions – We are non-registered NDIS providers, and work with all ages and abilities.

Workers Compensation – if you have been injured as a result of your workplace duties, we can help. We have extensive knowledge of this legislated scheme and will help guide you back to pre-injury duties.

DVA – a referral from your Doctor is required to book a DVA appointment.

As someone with a diagnosis of early breast cancer and wanting a tailored exercise program, Bloom Allied Health has been brilliant for me.

Very knowledgeable and experienced in women’s health including breast cancer treatment and wellbeing and is able to communicate effectively and with empathy.

I have been meeting with Jesse regularly for over eight months now and I can’t recommend her highly enough – exercise is all the go for managing cancer well and Bloom has been a great go-to for me!

Sue Gillieatt

I would not hesitate to recommend Bloom Allied Health.

I am 60, have had major surgery and have never been a gym person, so I was quite a challenge.

I have been attending Bloom for 10 months now and Will and Jesse have helped me achieve a level of strength, mobility and fitness I would not have thought possible.
